Issues

"In the Toronto context at least, people asked themselves some basic questions: What are our collective habits of heart and mind --what do we really feel and believe about our neighborhoods? And I will tell you that the message is very clear for any planner working in Toronto. Neighborhoods are like a religion. You don't mess around with them. Neighborhoods are very fundamental to the values of our particular city."
Paul Bedford, Chief Planner and Executive Director, City of Toronto

"The great urban thinker Jane Jacobs has always understood this - that it is not roads, monuments, or office towers that are the central building blocks of cities - it is our neighborhoods. Neighborhoods are what make this city great. We must value what is distinct about our neighborhoods, recognize that which has value beyond its cost."
Mayor David Miller

In 2005 the residents of this community, city planning and our councillor Joe Pantalone participated in several meetings to decide what was best for the future of this neighborhood. The results of those meetings resulted in changes to the bylaws. The area bylaws were changed in 2006 to reflect the needs and desires of the community.

Here is the most recent development that will be affecting our neighbourhood.

This development at 90 Niagara has 13 infractions against bylaw 438-86

Please view copies of the Public Hearing Notice AND the specific 13 variances here. http://nnnow.blogspot.com/

The NNNow welcomes a new development in this location but objects to this proposal as the variances requested do not conform to plan, and in many instances are considerably over or under what is stipulated by by-law.

We have met with the developer & city planning twice and verbalized our concerns over the project and its negative impact on our neighborhood. This has been their final presentation to us.
The changes they presented were minimal ie:they lowered the height from its first presentation to us by .85m. They also allowed for one extra visitor parking spot but took away one residential parking spot.

If you feel as we do that this current proposal is still not acceptable and beneficial to the neighborhood, please write/fax a letter or attend the meeting in person to speak before the committee.
